7 Year Itch

I have had so many people ask me as why I did not write about my stint/experience at my previous company after parting ways. Considering that it has been a long six years of association and that I remained a founding member till my last day at work, it did surprise a few as to why I would choose not to speak about it. I can come up with very many answers to this question so that it doesn't leave anything to your imagination.

  • It was time. I had to move on.(I have always known when to arrive and when to depart. Thank God!)
  • NASDAQ crashed. SENSEX boomed.
  • I ran out of evening snack partners.
  • Too many people found out that I was doing nothing in the company.
  • Too many people wanted to have my job in the company. See above.
  • All 300 people I had hired in the company quit over the years. Didn't want to start again.
  • Thanks to traffic, I became a better driver than a professional.
  • I didn't want to work for somebody else. Later I found out that I didn't want to work for me too.
  • I earned a few millions when I quit. Didn't want to work anymore.
  • I wanted to take a sabbatical and be free of a job-minded, salary-dependent life.
  • I wanted to go live in the US of A and get myself one of those traditional US flag inner wear. Recession took over. Sweet!
  • I wanted to earn more money and so started another company.
  • Never mind ...

Of course, not all of them are right. May be I will find out the answer in time. Since the theme of this week is about confronting a huge backlog in my life, I choose to write about my experience.

It has been one of the biggest joy ride of my life and it shall always remain special. I have met some wonderful people and worked with some of the best talents in the industry. But it's time to acknowledge that the 7 year itch is over. And time for another.

A 4-month rollover

Well, it's almost 4 months since my blogged last. Not that I was very regular in blogging before that. Changed my blog home to break the monotony and it was good only for 3-4 posts until last December. And now again. I felt like getting back to my routine and most importantly reflect on all the good things this life has to offer.

This year is one of the fast-paced years of my life. Several things ~ events ~ living souls grabbed my attention and held me captive. In a perfect world, I would have blogged about every one of them. However, I would like to list them so I can carry this backlog forward and write about them when I get a chance. Here it goes ...

    Make life difficult!

You take a simple working thing in life and make it more complicated than what it is. Isn't that how life should be?

So while I was perfectly happy about a point and shoot camera, I was also looking at something extra. Most of the time was spent on researching on D80, D300 and other competitive models. It was D3 which stood out. However given the $8000 price tag, settled down to a sensible model.

Here is yet another gadget addition to my life - a brand new Nikon D80.

And of course, I didn't import just a DSLR. A neat shot of proof below (no pun intended :-))

    A Night of Poker

Over the last few weeks, keeping us company over the weekends or during weeknights is a South African couple and their friends from various parts of Europe. So now I'm all informed about how South Africans drink their beer and their late night parties. Last Thursday, we decided to enjoy the Diwali break with a night of Poker and Pictionary. A game of Poker has always fascinated me but I can never play the game as it is meant to be. Given the variations of the game and the luck I have with card games, my immediate response to a poker game would be a default - "No, Thank you!"

This time around, gladly I said yes. It was a game of Seven Card Stud Poker and the rules are not easy. Couple of dry runs and I was happy to note that I was riding the beginner's luck. No real money involved but the red chips I owned made me very possessive of letting go. High, Low, Pair, Kicker, Split, Flush, Straight, Ante - the lingo got us rolling. After 4 hours of swinging fortunes, managed to run out of all my chips and had to take myself out of the game.

Now I'm addicted to this game. Since then I have been learning the rules, strategy for the Seven Card Stud, Texas Hold' em Poker and the Five Card  Stud Poker. There are several online games one can join but it is never easy to find a game of poker which does not ask for an introduction to your credit card. Still hunting for the perfect online game which will allow me to play the game for the heck of it and not for the monies.

    So pumpkins, poker anyone?
